ACC gets tens of thousands from city council for moving HQ to Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — The Atlantic Coast Conference is getting tens of thousands of dollars from Charlotte City Council for relocating its headquarters to Charlotte.

The city council unanimously approved the deal Monday night. It’s providing $40,000 to the ACC over the next three years.

The ACC is moving its headquarters to the Legacy Union tower in Uptown Charlotte. The new facility will include state-of-the art gameday operations and production studios.

The building also hosts the world headquarters of Honeywell and other corporate offices, including Bank of America, Deloitte, JLL, Robinson Bradshaw and Parker Poe.

As part of the deal for tax incentives, the state budget requires between now and 2033, the ACC host four men’s and women’s college basketball championships, four baseball championships, and 20 other postseason championships.

The ACC and Charlotte have enjoyed a long partnership that includes the Queen City hosting a significant number of ACC events and championships. In April 2018, the ACC and the Charlotte Sports Foundation announced a 10-year agreement that keeps the ACC Football Championship Game in Charlotte through the 2030 season.
