Birkdale Village to add seven new tenants

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Seven new retailers and restaurants are set to open at Huntersville’s Birkdale Village as major renovations continue at the mixed-use center.

On Wednesday, property owner and real estate company North American Properties announced the new tenants — Foxcroft Wine Co., The Good Wurst Co., Warby Parker, Beck on Broad, Cosmo Gypsy, Icebox Cryotherapy and Morelia Gourmet Paletas.

The news comes on the heels of NAP reopening the first revamped section of The Grove near Regal Cinemas as part of its ongoing redevelopment at the center.

Foxcroft Wine Co., The Good Wurst Co. and Morelia Gourmet Paletas are all Charlotte-based restaurants.

According to the Charlotte Observer, this will be the fifth location for Foxcroft Wine Co., which will open next spring next to Bad Daddy’s Burger.

Foxcroft, founded in 2004 by Conrad Hunter, will have a full-service kitchen dishing out a menu of small shareable plates as well as entrees, with several options made in-house such as bread, cheese, and pasta. An extensive selection of wines from around the world will also be available for grab-and-go purchases.

This will be the fourth location for The Good Wurst Co. The European-influenced, New York deli-style eatery will open in one of the new 1,200-square-foot jewel boxes.

Morelia Gourmet Paletas, which is owned and operated by Charlotte resident Norberto Munoz, will open its second location in one of the 200-square-foot tiny retail kiosks in The Grove.

Beck on Broad and Cosmo Gypsy are owned and operated by local husband and wife duo Leigh Moose and Ozzy Ojito. The shops opened on July 18 in two of the tiny retail kiosks and sell products such as upscale leather Beck bags, women’s luxury apparel and accessories, home décor and wellness items.

Icebox Cryotherapy is a cold therapy franchise owned and operated by Cornelius residents Chloe and Ryan Slattery that specializes in athletic recovery, pain relief and Cryobeauty services.

Eyewear retailer Warby Parker will also occupy a jewel box.

In addition, many longtime tenants are making updates to their spaces including Brixx Pizza, which is relocating to the former Qdoba space and will expand its footprint by roughly 45%.

eeZ Fusion & Sushi is undergoing a full renovation and 1,000-square-foot expansion. The locally owned restaurant’s remodeled space will feature a new, modernized sushi bar, a private dining room, a takeout area with its own dedicated entrance, and a grab-and-go cooler.

Midwood Smokehouse is also renovating its patio and adding new elements, and the owners of Red Rocks Café signed a 10-year lease extension and plan to renovate the outdoor dining area.

Savory Spice is relocating to the retail row fronting Cranlyn Road and will neighbor Icebox Cryotherapy.

“As we continue transforming Birkdale Village into a modern-day gathering place, our focus is providing more engaging customer experiences,” said Adam Schwegman of NAP in a news release. “With these merchandising enhancements, we hope to generate new street-level energy that encourages guests to linger longer and build deeper connections with their friends, families and neighbors.”

When completed, the reimagined Birkdale Village will be home to:

- A full-service valet and concierge.

- 13,000 square feet of open-air greenspace, including a performance stage and LED screen.

- Five small, freestanding retail buildings.

- A community garden and dog park.

Aesthetic changes will include a new paint scheme, redesigned storefronts, and improved streetscape.

NAP plans to wrap up construction this fall.
