Charlotte FC triumphs over Inter Miami CF, 1-0, at Bank of America Stadium

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte FC made its way back home Saturday to face Miami at Bank of America Stadium and rallied for a 1-0 win on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams went into halftime tied, but Brazilian forward Andre Shinyashiki came back in the 68th minute with a goal to the upper corner with an assist from Yordy Reyna to push Charlotte FC ahead.

Charlotte FC acquired Shinyashiki earlier this month from the Colorado Rapids.

Shinyashiki was previously named the 2019 MLS Rookie of the Year following a seven goal and three assist season for the Colorado Rapids.

The match was the first meeting between Charlotte and Inter Miami CF. It was also the first time Miami has faced an expansion team while not being in their first season themselves.

Charlotte returned home after three away matches, only netting one goal in the process. Charlotte has won four straight home matches.

Inter Miami’s three-match winning streak ended with a 2-0 loss at the New England Revolution on April 30. Miami has scored only eight goals in its last 18 away matches, failing to score more than once in any of those games.

The first goal has decided each of the ten matches this season in which Charlotte scored at least one point. The club has gone on to win all four matches in which it scored first and lost all six in which it conceded first (one was a 0-0 draw).

All nine of Inter Miami’s goals this season have been scored from inside the box despite a league-high 50% of its shots coming from outside (53/106). Jean Mota has attempted an MLS-high 22 shots from outside the box, while his 25 total shots are the most of any player without a goal this MLS season.
