‘A bright star’: Loved ones remember Charlotte man killed in Nashville stabbing

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A Charlotte man was found stabbed to death on the side of a road in Nashville, Tennessee, ABC affiliate WKRN reports. People who knew and loved him told Channel 9 they’re left with a lot of questions about who killed him.

Jamal Moore, 30, was found over the weekend. His family said he was in Nashville on business when his body was found on the side of the road.

Nashville police said Moore’s car was found near a storage unit two miles away from where his body was found. Police said they haven’t arrested anyone.

Moore’s friends plan to hold a vigil to honor his memory at 6 p.m. Thursday at Romare Bearden Park -- a park he loved. People who knew him say he was someone who loved life and who motivated and impacted so many. It’s why his death is so stunning.

Though Moore had a way with words, his sister said it’s hard to find the right words to describe the magnitude of his loss.

“He was the light of the world to us,” Eulia Moore said. “He was like a bright star.”

Her brother was a motivational speaker, a minister by morning, a businessman by day, and an author on his off time. She said her brother was the kind of guy who’d do anything for anyone.

“All we can do is remember all the good things he’s done for everybody,” she said.

It’s why she’s still in disbelief knowing Jamal was stabbed to death on Saturday. She’s still processing his death.

“I feel like it was unfair for them to take a person who would do anything for you -- he’d give you the shirt off his back -- to kill him in that way,” she told Channel 9′s Hunter Sáenz, crying.

Victoria Orr was Jamal Moore’s best friend.

“I’m still not there yet to say bye or let him go. I still want to hold on to everything,” she said.

She was overcome with emotions too.

“I just want to know who did this,” Orr said.

She says she and Jamal were hooked at the hip -- he was her rock. And now, she holds on to the impact he had.

“Everything I do now, going forward, is going to be for him, because I know how much he believed in me and loved me,” Orr said.

Sáenz reached out to Nashville police for more information about what happened but hasn’t heard back.

Moore’s funeral is on Saturday in Washington, North Carolina, which is where he grew up. His loved ones also set up a GoFundMe to help with his funeral expenses -- you can click here to contribute.
