Charlotte music venue struggling to make ends meet waits on vital grant money

CHARLOTTE — Some Charlotte music venues are starting to play again after a year of silence during the pandemic.

They are now allowed to reopen at 30% capacity.

The Neighborhood Theatre has been closed the whole time and is trying to make up for lost income.

The last concert at the venue was March 7, 2020. The Neighborhood Theatre is in limbo, waiting on a new grant that would make up for some of its lost income.

“I think we were all hopeful that would be a matter of a month or so and now it’s drawn on,” said Gregg McCraw, president of Maxx Music, which that books shows at the hall. “It passed in December and now we’re mid-March.”

In the video at the top of this webpage, McCraw talks about his frustrations as they continue to go through the application process.
