CHARLOTTE — The I-77 southbound on-ramp from I-85 was closed early Tuesday morning while first responders rescued cattle from an overturned tractor-trailer.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation crews said the truck, which was carrying 40 cows, flipped around 12:22 a.m. The on-ramp was closed for several hours while crews attempted to rescue the cows and turn the trailer upright.

Firefighters had to cut open the roof of the truck with a saw to get the cows out. Around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, crews were still working to clear the scene.

MEDIC said it responded and no people were hurt. Unfortunately, many of the cows did not survive.
