Highway Patrol taking steps to keep local tourist spot safe as summer approaches

WATAUGA COUNTY, N.C. — North Carolina State Highway Patrol is taking steps to keep everyone safe around a popular tourist spot in the North Carolina mountains

Reporter Dave Faherty visited Laurel Creek Falls in Boone on Friday morning, where troopers say there have been serious accidents along Highway 321 because of the traffic congestion and cars parking illegally.

Troopers said they are responding to parking violations with both education and enforcement in mind and are asking visitors to make sure their cars are completely off the road to avoid the possibility of being towed or a citation.

>>In the video at the top of the page, Faherty highlights the issue and talks to Charlotte students who made the drive Friday morning to cool off and nearby residents who are worried about the congestion on the weekends.
