Homeowners say builder still owes them pool, lawn service, mailboxes

SHERRILLS FORD, N.C. — More people are complaining about a builder Channel 9 reported on last month. Eight people who bought new constructions in the Magnolia Cove neighborhood in Sherrills Ford told Action 9′s Jason Stoogenke that the builder, Aaron Guess, promised a neighborhood pool, lawn service and mailboxes.

Veronda Schools says buying a home in Magnolia Cove has been a long walk.

“It’s just been one thing after another,” she said.

“This whole journey has been nerve-wracking,” homeowner Sheralanne Citrone said.

“We all have to go to the post office to pick up our mail,” Schools said. Channel 9 checked and it’s more than 10 miles round trip to the post office, so if someone goes six times per week, it would be 60-plus miles.

“It’s like he’s getting away with it and I don’t know how,” Schools said.

In addition, some say the builder didn’t address problems inside their homes either. In Citrone’s case this includes the fireplace, the stove, and a curved shower door for the main bath that was not installed.

Citrone and other residents say they paid hundreds or even thousands of dollars in Homeowner Association dues, but that they can’t find out how that money is being used.

“We’re retired. I’m 78. He’s 80,” Citrone said, referring to her husband. “It’s just very, very stressful and I just feel, at our age, we shouldn’t be under this type of stress. If you’re going to promise something, do it.”

“This was supposed to be such a joyous occasion for us and our children and it ended up being a nightmare,” Schools said.

Aaron Guess’s lawyer responded by email for Action 9′s Jason Stoogenke’s initial report, so Stoogenke emailed him again for this report. Stoogenke emailed Aaron Guess as well. Neither responded in time for this report.
