CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district board member Rhonda Cheek announced Tuesday night that she will not seek reelection.

“This decision was obviously difficult and emotional, because I do care so much for children and about public education,” Cheek said at Tuesday’s board meeting. “But over the past couple of weeks and months, I’ve realized I’ve lost my desire to serve in this capacity.”

The District 1 representative was elected to the board of election in 2009.
