The Political Beat: NC state treasurer discusses political future, health care and more

CHARLOTTE — North Carolina State Treasurer Dale Folwell is a popular name of late.

Between changes to the health insurance provider for state employees, calls for health care pricing transparency and a rumored bid for governor in 2024, Folwell and his decisions are on the minds of many.

This week, the Political Beat’s Joe Bruno sat down with Folwell to discuss each of these issues and more.

The Republican state treasurer has been a popular name to contend for the governorship in next year’s general election. In speaking with Channel 9, Folwell remained coy about any potential bid.

“Right now, I may not make an announcement on that,” he said. “I am trying to be the best state treasurer and the keeper of the public purse in North Carolina history.”

Still, he laid out the qualities he believes North Carolinians are looking for in their next state leader.

“What people really want is someone who has the vision to see what needs to be done, the humility to listen for what needs to be done and the courage to act on what needs to be done,” he said.
