Security checkpoint at airport to close ahead of busy spring, summer travel season

CHARLOTTE — Security checkpoint B at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport will permanently close on March 17 as part of its lobby expansion.

Other changes passengers can expect in March include the relocation of the airport information desk to across from Door 1 near the closed Checkpoint B. An exit lane for checkpoint A will reopen on March 16. The west side ticket counters, which house most non-American Airlines operators, will move 30 feet north starting in mid-March.

The airport currently has five checkpoints.

When the lobby expansion construction is finished in 2025, there will be three checkpoints. Airport officials say they will be more efficient due to TSA staffing and more automated screening lanes.

Checkpoint B currently has four security lanes and processed an average of 7,300 daily passengers last summer. It will reopen before the holidays with six automated screening lanes with a new look and name, checkpoint 1. Airport officials have been periodically closing checkpoint B over the past few months to help TSA prepare.
