Motorist killed after colliding with 5 cows on rural road, troopers say

HENDRY COUNTY, Fla. — A motorist was killed when he collided with cows crossing a rural road in Southwest Florida on Monday, authorities said.

The five cows were also killed in the crash, which took place in Hendry County at about 4:55 a.m. EDT, WBBH-TV reported.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, two vehicles were involved in the crash.

A Ford Mustang, driven by a 27-year-old man from LaBelle, was traveling south on State Road 29 when five cows walked onto the highway, WINK-TV reported. The Mustang and a Dodge Ram pickup, driven by a 50-year-old man from Immokalee, struck the cows, according to the television station.

The two vehicles also collided, troopers said. The driver of the Mustang was pronounced dead at the scene, the Miami Herald reported. The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries, according to the newspaper.

The identities of the drivers have not been released, the Herald reported. Authorities said that both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

An investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
