CHARLOTTE — A 37-year-old Charlotte man was arrested for allegedly killing one and injuring two in a shooting on Monday afternoon near a mini-mart.

The shooting happened around 4 p.m. on Archdale Drive close to the Interstate 77 interchange in south Charlotte.

Channel 9 has covered multiple crimes in the area in the past.

“These incidents are concerning for the community, and they’re concerning for us. Any time a dispute or whatever the circumstances turn violent, it leads to unfortunate endings, and it’s an absolute concern for us,” said Major Ryan Kendall.

Mykel Washington, 28, of Charlotte, died at the scene.

Domonique Chisholm, 26, and Daniel Houser, 24, both of Charlotte, were shot and taken to Atrium Health Main with serious injuries.

Resident Kamil Taimon echoed a similar sentiment when discussing violence in the area.

“This is considered exit four. I mean, very high crime for years,” Taimon said.

Taimon also expressed sympathy for the victim’s loved ones. She knows the feeling all too well after losing her daughter in a 2018 homicide.

“I feel deeply for whoever’s going to get that call,” Taimon said. “The mother, the father, the sister, the brother. And just to kind of think about what they’re getting ready to go through, which is absolutely pure, excruciating hell.”

Terrence Christopher Richardson, Jr. was charged with first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

CMPD said surveillance video shows Richardson walk up to the victims, firing shots before chasing one into the store while shooting at him. Richardson then fled.

Investigators found eight 9mm round casings at the scene.

They learned that Richardson was staying at the Amerivu Inn & Suites near the scene of the crime.

He was later arrested.

No additional details have been made available.
