2 hurt, 1 killed in University City shooting, CMPD says

CHARLOTTE — Police say three people were shot late Sunday night along University City Boulevard in Charlotte, and one of the victims was killed.

The shooting happened just before 11 p.m. east of N. Tryon Street, and officers found Wonah Abu-Baby Konte Jr., 35, who had been shot. He was taken to the hospital, but he died from his injuries, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reported early Monday.

While the first victim was taken to Atrium Main, two more victims were treated at a different hospital for gunshot wounds. Their current conditions aren’t known.

A homicide investigation is underway, CMPD said. It’s not clear if investigators are looking for the suspected shooters.
