3rd suspect arrested in killing of woman found in car down an embankment

CHARLOTTE — A third suspect was arrested in connection with the death of Kennedi Aniyah Flora Jones, 19.

On Dec. 26, 2024, she was found in a car that was down an embankment in the 4800 block of Shamrock Drive. She died at a hospital from her injuries.

Six days after the homicide, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrested Dreshon Moreno who said he robbed Jones of her phone and then killed her.

Police charged Moreno with murder and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

On Jan. 7, CMPD said its Violent Apprehension Team arrested James Ashely Mason, 24, and charged him with murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Most recently, CMPD VCAT worked with local authorities and a gang unit to arrest Zion Lamont Jennings, 18, in Winston-Salem. He was charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Jennings has been transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
