44 people in 21 states tell Action 9 their Frigidaire oven glass has shattered

Another family says the glass on their Frigidaire oven shattered.

They told Action 9′s Jason Stoogenke it happened while they were sleeping Sunday night.

Dozens have contacted Action 9 with the same problem from more than 20 states, but the company has not issued a recall.

PAST COVERAGE:

The latest person to experience the issue emailed a photo of her shattered oven door to Stoogenke. She said her family, who lives in Missouri, used the oven for about 20 minutes Sunday afternoon.

She said sometime after 10 p.m. Sunday, the glass broke.

Stoogenke started investigating this issue less than a year and a half ago. Since then, 44 people have now contacted him from 21 states, including both Carolinas and as far away as Alaska.

Many said their ovens were fairly new but out of warranty, and that the company wouldn’t cover any repairs.

18 said their ovens were on or still warm when they shattered. 18 said they were off and cold. The other 8 didn’t say either way.

Stogenke asked Frigidaire’s parent company, Electrolux, for months -- if it’s planning a recall. He hasn’t heard anything yet, but the company said it takes safety seriously.

In the meantime, be extra careful around the glass. For example, make sure you don’t use the oven door to push in the racks.
