CHARLOTTE — A woman has been charged with felony child neglect after police say her child has not eaten properly in months, according to arrest warrants.
Sarah Weber was taken into custody at the home she was renting on Delamere Lane early Saturday morning.
According to arrest warrants, Weber told officers that one of her children had not eaten solid foods in approximately six months. She said that the same child also had diarrhea for at least one month.
It goes on to say that Weber failed to take the child to an area hospital to seek help from a medical professional.
When the child was finally taken to a hospital to be examined by a doctor, they were severely malnourished. The child was then admitted to that hospital, according to arrest warrants.
The owner of the home told Channel 9 that Weber’s four-year-old daughter was the one affected.
Neighbors said they were startled when officers arrived at the home.
“When I looked out the window, there were about 3 police cruisers. And after a while, the cruisers were met by the ambulance,” said neighbor Jacqueline Wade.
She said she lives next door to Weber and was shocked by the allegations.
“It’s definitely very saddening, right? So you could be in close proximity to someone and not know the extent of suffering,” said Wade.
Weber is being held in jail under a $25,000 bond. Her first court appearance has been scheduled for Monday afternoon.
