BLOWING ROCK, N.C. — Bistro Roca, a historic restaurant in Blowing Rock, was declared a total loss after a fire that began at approximately 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
Built before Prohibition, Bistro Roca housed a speakeasy in its basement, which complicated firefighting efforts.
Crews encountered challenges accessing the lower areas to extinguish the flames effectively.
The Blowing Rock Fire Department arrived on the scene shortly after receiving the call.
They were supported by the Boone Fire Department and Watauga Medics in managing the fire.
“Very sad for a staple here in Blowing Rock,” town officials said.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Blowing Rock Fire Department.
