Car dangling from parking garage shut down roads in Uptown

CHARLOTTE — Several roads in Uptown Charlotte were shut down due to a vehicle dangling from a parking garage Thursday morning.

It happened shortly after 8 a.m. on North Church Street near West 6th Street.

Channel 9′s Eli Brand observed the vehicle dangling over the sidewalk from the ninth floor of the parking garage for nearly an hour.

A nearby surveillance camera captures the moments that the car hit the garage, which then threw two metal grates to the ground.

The vehicle was eventually pulled back into the garage before being towed away.

The Charlotte Fire Department said no one was inside the vehicle when they found it.

An investigation revealed that the vehicle was left in neutral when it rolled into the side of the parking deck.

No structural damages were done to the building, and no criminal charges are expected to be filed, according to officials.

Witnesses at the scene told Channel 9 that they were standing outside when the grates from the parking garage fell down.

“My wife says I need to buy a lottery ticket. Five minutes before, I walked out the door and walked this way to work. Apparently, this happened right after. Then we came back, turned around, and took a peek,” Patrick Long explained.

MEDIC said no one was hurt in this incident.
