CHARLOTTE — Charlotte FC Captain Christian Fuchs announced his retirement from professional soccer on Thursday.
The Austrian-born defender joined Charlotte FC in 2021, making him the club’s fifth-ever signing. As Charlotte FC’s captain in their inaugural season, Fuchs made 27 appearances and scored three penalty goals.
Sporting Director of Charlotte FC Zoran Krneta reminisced about the club’s first captain, saying he laid a strong foundation for the club.

“Christian is leaving behind an incredible legacy both on and off the field, and his impressive 19-year career speaks for itself,” said Krneta, “We are thankful to have had a player of his caliber lead our locker room as captain to build a positive, winning culture in our inaugural season. He was important for us with his performances on the field, but more importantly, he has helped lay a critical foundation that will help this Club be successful for many years to come.”
After playing 19 seasons for seven professional teams across four different countries, Fuchs has decided to leave the field but will remain at Charlotte FC as an assistant coach.
