Charlotte lost these restaurants in 2024

Wentworth & Fenn: Uptown Closed: February The gourmet bakery shuttered its location at The Alley at Latta Arcade after eight months. Sales had been on a decline since the 400-square-foot bakery opened, while overhead rose. In November, Wentworth & Fenn announced it would also close its original location at Camp North End amid economic pressures such as rising costs for goods and labor. The all-scratch bakery, known for its custom cakes, pastries and artisan bread, opened in March 2020 — just one day before the pandemic shuttered businesses across North Carolina. (Melissa Key)

CHARLOTTE — Ongoing struggles in the restaurant and brewery industries remained visible in 2024 across Charlotte.

Local operators continue to contend with higher food, labor and rent costs, among other factors. That’s led dozens of restaurants throughout the area, many of which are Charlotte staples, to call it quits in 2024.

Some of the longest-standing restaurants that closed this year are Riccio’s Italian Restaurant, which shuttered this fall in south Charlotte after a 60-year run; Village Tavern, which closed in October in SouthPark after 35 years; and Harper’s Restaurant, which shut down in July in SouthPark after 37 years to make way for a new bank branch.
