CHARLOTTE — Charlotte City Council cleared the way for a major development project at Providence Square in south Charlotte.

City officials approved a rezoning request from the developers, which includes a combined 115 acres at the corner of Providence and Old Providence roads.

Plans call for affordable housing, retail, apartments, office space, and a $100,000 square foot grocery store.
