CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police announced Saturday they had a successful New Year’s Eve with no major incidents through the scheduled events in Uptown.
Police said they arrested 18 people, with 8 of those being adults and 10 being juveniles. Before the holiday, officers went to the homes of prior juvenile offenders to discourage further criminal behavior. Out of those that were given visits, no one reoffended.
The ten juveniles who were arrested ranged in age from 10 to 15 years old. Charges included violating the Youth Protection Ordinance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Subsequently. Their parents were also cited and charged.
Last year, five people were shot at the Uptown park. Three Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers were hurt and 18 others were arrested or cited.
