CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department had asked the public to avoid the area of an east Charlotte apartment complex on Wednesday morning.
Officers responded to a call about an assault with a deadly weapon at about 9:15 a.m. in the 1500 block of Kelston Place at The Kelston, north of Albemarle Road.
The call seemed to be domestic-related, CMPD said in an afternoon update.
The incident, which included SWAT team members surrounding the apartments, ended at about 2 p.m.
Channel 9’s Hannah Goetz spoke with neighbors left wondering what happened.
“I’ve been living here for quite a while,” one neighbor told Channel 9. “I’ve never seen anything like this. No issues. We never hear any gunshots over here. It’s not a violent neighborhood. I am very surprised this has happened. It’s packed with police, so this had to be a really bad situation.”
Goetz heard police said they cleared the apartment and the wood line nearby, so whoever they were looking for, it doesn’t seem they found them.
No additional details have been made available.
The investigation is ongoing.
