CHARLOTTE — The suspect in a deadly shooting in south Charlotte is expected in court Monday.
Ebonee Rahman faces charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Rahman is accused of killing 42-year-old Lashunda Shmicka McLendon on Archdale Drive, near Nations Ford Road, Friday morning.
Witnesses told Channel 9′s Hunter Sáenz that two women were arguing before one shot the other.
“I saw some form of discussion, and then they calmed down, and then we heard a gunshot,” said Paula Gonzales, who was working at a food truck nearby.
“Every one of these situations is a tragedy. Whenever an incident is resolved with a firearm, tragedy ensues. That’s what happened here today,” said Major Ryan Kendall.
It happened in an area that has seen violent crime recently.
Earlier this month, police said a 25-year-old man was shot and killed just half a mile down the road on Archdale Drive. And back in May, police responded to the same area after two people were seriously hurt in a shooting.
Police said none of those shootings are related, but witnesses feel more needs to be done.
“I would like police and detectives to check the area more often because I see a lot of groups of people,” Gonzales told Sáenz.
According to court paperwork, Rahman has been charged with first degree murder and possession of a gun by a felon in connection this homicide.
