CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is starting its first flag football league for middle-school girls.
The league is open to girls ages 11 to 13 who are Mecklenburg County residents and non-residents.
There will be a skills clinic on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Revolution Park Sports Academy. That is where girls can learn the game and improve their skills.
“One of our biggest initiatives in our youth sports programs is to grow the game for girls on the field and on the court,” said Dennis Crump, sports and fitness recreation manager for Park and Recreation. “By teaming up with CMS, we are providing girls the opportunity to learn the game and compete with their peers from across the county.”
CMS started its league for high schooler girls two years ago and was the first district to offer a girls’ league in North Carolina.
To sign up for the clinic, email Park and Recreation’s Youth Sports staff at YouthSports@MeckNC.gov or call 980-314-1362.
