3-alarm blaze at apartments under construction was ‘incendiary,’ officials say

LANDIS, N.C. — A three-alarm fire early Tuesday morning at an apartment complex under construction was an “incendiary fire,” officials with the town of Landis said.

The Landis Fire Department reached the Landis Apartments at 1355 Mount Moriah Church Road at about 4:25 a.m. and saw the multi-story building in flames.

Multiple fire departments in Rowan County, including Rockwell Rural, controlled the blaze, and no injuries were reported.

The Rowan County Fire Marshal’s Office requested help from the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is also assisting in the case.

The Landis Police Department is leading the investigation.
