Discovery Place celebrates 75 years, announces upgrades for its 4 museums

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles designated Nov. 9 as Discovery Place Day in honor of the organization’s 75th anniversary. The popular family-friendly attraction has served generations of Carolinians over the past 75 years, and its leaders are marking the milestone by announcing plans for investing in each of its four museums — Discovery Place Nature, Discovery Place Science, Discovery Place Kids in Huntersville and Discovery Place Kids in Rockingham — to continue serving future generations.

Emma Murdock said she grew up going to Discovery Place almost every weekend. She’s happy to see the growth and nods to its nostalgia.

“I feel like it’s something cool to do in Charlotte because I feel like in the city it’s just a lot of banking and business, so adding more to this, it gives people more to do,” Murdock said.
