Family grieves loss of mother killed in head-on crash in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — A family is grieving the loss of their mother after police say an impaired driver crashed head-on into her car in east Charlotte.

The crash occurred over the weekend on East W.T. Harris Boulevard.

The victim’s husband, Elio Pindea, told Channel 9 that he was devastated by the senseless crash.

Pindea described his wife, 40-year-old Yaneth Guevara, as full of joy.

“She never looked sad, was always happy and positive,” Pindea said.

He said they had just left a birthday party when Felix Davila ran into their vehicle. Police believe Davila was driving on the wrong side of the road, speeding, and impaired at the time of the incident.

“I remember seeing two lights in front of us. The last words she said were, ‘Look at that crazy man,’” Pindea said.

Guevara was rushed to an area hospital where she later died from her injuries.

On Tuesday, her family opened their home to Channel 9 reporter Tina Terry. She showed her photos of Guevara and told her they were relying on faith to get them through the pain.

Pindea said he is also thinking about the man who caused the crash.

“If God lets me face him, I will forgive him for everything,” Pindea said.

In total, several people were treated for injuries related to this crash, including Davila. He has been discharged and arrested.

He is facing several charges, including felony death by vehicle.
