CHARLOTTE — Police responded to a stabbing Monday that stemmed from a fight between two employees at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Channel 9 saw a large CMPD presence at about 11 a.m. outside the jail at the Charlotte City Magistrate’s office on East 4th Street.
Two female civilian employees at the Arrest Processing Center were arguing when one of them stabbed the other. The injuries were serious but not life-threatening, the sheriff said.
Neither of the employees involved was a sworn officer.
The sheriff’s office arrested LaKisha Easter, who was a fingerprint examiner. She was hired in April 2012 and was fired on Monday.
Charges are forthcoming.
“This was an isolated and extremely unfortunate event. We are grateful for the quick actions of the MCSO staff, which likely prevented further harm,” said Sheriff Garry McFadden. “No one expects violence to erupt in their place of work, and yet incidents like this remind us how critical it is to identify and address warning signs early. We encourage employees to foster environments where individuals feel safe and can seek help.”
