Resources for those impacted by Hurricane Helene

Remnants of Hurricane Helene damaged several parts of South and North Carolina, leaving many without power, water, and cell service.

If you or someone you know need help, we have created a list of resources for donations or help in other ways.

Up-to-date information on local conditions, shelters, traffic, power outages, and resources are available at ReadyNC.gov and from county government social media.

• Airbnb’s nonprofit, Airbnb.org, is offering free, temporary housing to residents who have been displaced from their homes.
• The Charlotte Humane Society is offering an adoption discount as they take in rescues from western North Carolina.
• NAMI Family & Friends is a free 90-minute or four-hour seminar that informs people who have loved ones with a mental health condition how to best support them.
• To report a missing person or request non-emergency support, please call NC 211 or 800-950-NAMI (6264) if calling from out of state.

What to bring to a Disaster Recovery Center

• Social Security number
• Address of damaged home or apartment
• Description of the damage
• Information about insurance coverage
• Your current telephone contact number
• An address where you can receive mail
• Bank account and routing numbers for direct deposit of funds

Community Foundation of Henderson County has established three funds to support the relief and recovery. These funds will be used to make grants to support short-term or long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts. Each fund has a slightly different focus:Disaster Relief, Recovery, and Rebuild - supporting Henderson County and surrounding areas.

• WNC Disaster Relief - supporting the WNC region
• Disaster Recovery for Lake Lure and Chimney Rock - supporting some of the hardest hit regions, Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, NC.
