Human exposed to rabid raccoon in Huntersville, police say

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — A human has been exposed to rabies after an encounter with a raccoon, according to the Huntersville Police Department.

Police said the incident occurred near Hedrick Circle.

The human and one livestock animal were exposed to the rabid animal, according to police.

Law enforcement is encouraging adults and children to never approach, touch, or feed a wild animal, even if they think it’s friendly or needs medical attention.

Residents are also encouraged to make sure their pets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations.

Anyone who believes they or their pets have been bitten or scratched by a raccoon is encouraged to contact public health officials here.
