Human remains found in woods of Alexander County, deputies say

TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. — Human remains were found in a wooded area on Monday evening, according to the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office.

The discovery was made by some duck hunters just before 6 p.m. along Highway 16 just north of Taylorsville.

Deputies said the person had been there for a while, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is working to recover the remains.

However, foul play is not suspected.

Channel 9′s Dave Faherty spoke with neighbors about the case.

“I’d like to have some answers. I want to know what’s going on since I live here right close to the field. And if there’s something happening down in the woods, it scares me and all,” said neighbor Rhonda Mason.

Deputies said they are working closely with an anthropologist and the medical examiner in hopes of identifying the person.
