WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. — One of the best-known hotels on the North Carolina coast is back open — with a new name and a swank approach.
The Blockade Runner Beach Resort in Wrightsville Beach is now the Trailborn Surf & Sound, and the spot that has welcomed vacationers for decades has a sweeping new look.
The hotel sits on an ideal location, spanning 3.5 acres and featuring the Banks Channel on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other.
Lawrence Lewis Jr. opened the 151-room Blockade Runner in 1964 and sold it to Joseph Baggett in 1971. The Baggett family sold the hotel in 2022 to Castle Peak Holdings of New York City.
