Lowe’s giving away tiny homes to families hit hard by Helene

CHARLOTTE — Local builders and Lowe’s are partnering to make this holiday brighter for some families hit hard by Hurricane Helene.

NASCAR Haulers are taking more than a dozen tiny homes to western North Carolina Thursday.

The initiative is part of Lowe’s Home Improvement’s $12 million pledge to support relief efforts there.

Channel 9′s Dave Faherty was with volunteers Thursday morning as they put the finishing touches on the homes that will be delivered just in time for Christmas.

Volunteers from Lowe’s, the Home Builders Association of Greater Charlotte, Habitat for Humanity, and Advance Roofing and Exteriors have all been working together to build the homes over the last week at a warehouse off of Old Dowd.

Lowe’s goal is to donate 100 tiny homes to western North Carolina, with two thirds of them being delivered before Christmas.

Channel 9 got an up close look at the hard work the volunteers have put in to help folks who lost much of what they owned during the storm.

We learned that the homes will be delivered and installed in Avery and Buncombe counties through a partnership with Beloved Asheville and Appalachia Service Project. Those NASCAR Haulers should arrive in the Asheville area later Thursday afternoon.

Channel 9 will be there as some of the families get the homes and will share that part of the story tonight at 5 p.m.
