Man charged with murder months after east Charlotte shooting

Police investigate homicide in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — A man has been charged in the death of a teen who was shot and killed in east Charlotte this past summer.

According to Mecklenburg County Jail records, police arrested 18-year-old Omar Teasley Jr. on Monday. Channel 9 confirmed through court records that the arrest was connected to the July shooting death of 18-year-old Rashaka Black Prince.

On July 18, officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said they were called to the 6000 block of Cattail Court to investigate a shooting.

Authorities found Prince, who had been shot once, and rushed him to the hospital where he later died.

Investigators told Channel 9 that Prince had been shot in the street, not in a house. They also said the shooting didn’t appear to be a random incident.

Teasley has been charged with first-degree murder and was being held without bond, police said.
