CHARLOTTE — An unknown assailant beat a 43-year-old man in the head who was walking along a sidewalk in east Charlotte near Plaza Midwood, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department report.
The attack happened at about 3:30 p.m. Monday on Central Avenue near Arnold Drive.
He was taken to Atrium Health Main to be treated for having non-life-threatening injuries.
The victim, who didn’t want to be identified told Channel the attacker came up from behind and hit his head multiple times with a brick. He has staples in his skull and stitches along his eyebrow.
Resident Angel Perez said he lives a block from where the attack happened not far from Briar Creek.
“I’m thinking violence just gets bigger and bigger every day,” Perez said. “I think nobody does anything to avoid things like that.”
Resident Audrey Pinnix said she was homeless before moving to East Charlotte and believes the area is too dangerous for her five kids.
“I think it needs to be patrolled a little bit better. But to be honest, we need more resources for our community,” she said.
