INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. — A mother is heartbroken after she lost both her children to fentanyl.
The man accused of selling her daughter a fatal dose will face a judge this week, and she is pushing for answers.
Jennifer Mutterer hopes her story will show why people bringing the drug should be held accountable.
Her 29-year-old daughter, Amber Gale, and her 18-year-old son, Nicolas, both died from fentanyl.
“Fentanyl has impacted my whole family, and it literally hurts my heart. I have pain in my heart,” Mutterer said.
Nicolas died in 2021 after he celebrated a year clean in rehab.
“He came home for four days,” she said. “I found him in his bed. Overdose from fentanyl. It was the only thing in his system.”
Mutterer said she had warned Amber of the drug and was heartbroken when she found out fentanyl also took her life in December 2023.
“I don’t know exactly what happened with her,” Mutterer said. “All I know is fentanyl overdose.”
Amber recently gave birth to her son and was a mother to a four-year-old boy.
“Amber just wanted a family, and she loved her children,” she said.
Amber’s fiancé also died from fentanyl in March, according to court documents.
Monroe police investigated and charged Corderius Allen with aggravated death by distribution in the deaths of Amber and her fiancé.
“He needs to get off the streets to stop killing these people,” she said. “If the only two he did was my daughter and her fiancé, there’s going to be more.”
Mutterer plans to be at Allen’s court hearings as she fights for justice.
“We’re not a bad family. They weren’t bad people or bad children. They were great kids,” the mother said.
Allen is scheduled to be in court on Thursday. He may submit a plea in the case.
Mutterer said no one was ever charged in her son’s case.
