KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Transportation closed North Carolina Highway 3 in Kannapolis about a year ago, but the road-widening project was supposed to take about four months.
NCDOT contract crews have been working on widening NC 3 between Kannapolis Pkwy and Loop Road. to four lanes since last summer. The project, which is between Kannapolis Parkway and Loop Road, is extensive.
Retaining walls have been built. Two new bridges over Irish Buffalo Creek are complete and the concrete pour for new sidewalks and driveways is done.
