LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — More than 100 people in Lincoln County say they don’t want their homes being annexed into Catawba County.

A new petition is circulating online with several signatures in the Killian Crossing neighborhood near Denver.

A spokesperson with Catawba County says Lincoln County began looking into the accuracy of the boundary line between the two counties. Both of the counties requested a survey, and the state determined the boundary line wasn’t correct.

According to the petition, families are concerned about students in Lincoln County being forced to move into Catawba County Schools, and the impact on their property values.

The county boards haven’t said what’s next, but a spokesperson said this situation “is not unusual in North Carolina.”

“Over decades of physical changes to the landscape and parcel changes between counties, many common county boundaries, including the line between Catawba and Lincoln counties, have gradually deviated from the official boundary over time,” said Amy McCauley with Catawba County.
