1-year-old boy hurt in northeast Charlotte shooting, MEDIC says

CHARLOTTE — A 1-year-old boy is recovering after a shooting in northeast Charlotte early Tuesday morning.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said the boy was shot in the leg just before 1 a.m. on Cricketwood Lane near Briarwood Park.

His injuries were non-life-threatening, according to MEDIC.

Kevin Castillo lives a few houses down from the home where the shooting happened.

He said it’s not uncommon to hear gunshots, but this time was different.

“Two to three times a week we hear shots, far away from here,” Castillo said. “Like I don’t know 5-10 minutes. But yesterday, we heard them really close, really close from this house.”

Channel 9 spoke with another neighbor who said the family has only lived at the house for about one month.

“I’m so sorry that happened. That’s just so heartbreaking because I have a 1-year-old too, and I don’t have any guns or anything in my home. I’m sorry that happened to a 1-year-old over here,” the neighbor said.

Police said the boy will be OK.

Police said they are not searching for a suspect in this case.
