ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A person has been hospitalized after being shot during a road rage incident Friday evening, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting happened just after 5 p.m. on Interstate 85 near mile marker 68.
The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
The victim told officials that a truck sped up behind him, pulled up next to him, and fired a handgun multiple times.
Officials said the victim is “lucky to be alive.” He pulled over and waited for emergency crews, who recovered a bullet from the victim’s headrest, just inches away from his head.
Deputies said they are searching for a suspect who may have been driving a white Chevrolet 1500 extended cab work truck with possible yellow and/or red writing on it.
Officials said the victim told them the truck had a logo with the word “Construction” and possibly a phone number.
That vehicle was last seen traveling on I-85 towards Davidson County, according to deputies.
Deputies said they are looking for a white male in his mid-30s wearing a hat.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office at 704-216-8700.
