Power outage shuts down east Charlotte intersection

CHARLOTTE — Eastway Drive has reopened at Central Avenue after a utility issue shut down the east Charlotte intersection through Wednesday’s morning rush.

According to Duke Energy, a power outage that started around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday caused hundreds of homes to lose electricity. Officials say the outage was caused by fallen tree limbs damaging Duke Energy equipment.

The intersection was limited to right turns only, meaning there was no through traffic across the roads. Around 7:30 a.m., officers began to direct traffic through the intersection to keep up with the morning commute.
