Some parents plan to not send kids to new Fort Mill elementary school near Silfab plant

FORT MILL, S.C. — Enrollment for Fort Mill’s newest elementary school will start in just a few weeks, which will help with congestion and enrollment freezes at other schools. However, some parents don’t plan to send their kids there because of the school is near the new solar panel plant owned by Silfab.

Channel 9′s Tina Terry learned parents are worried about the chemicals used at the plant, which is right behind the new Flint Hill Elementary School.

“I was devastated,” parent Mary-Katherine Langford said. “We knew we were proposed to be districted there. We’ve sent several emails along with hundreds of other parents giving feedback that the school is very dangerous where it is currently.”

A spokesperson said the school district is aware of the current litigation and is watching to see what happens.
