FORECAST: Remnants of Nicole push away from Carolinas; conditions to clear

Heavy rain from the remnants of Hurricane Nicole covered the eastern United States from Georgia to the Canadian border Friday

Flood warning issued for Ashe and Watauga counties until 4 a.m. Saturday.

Friday 3:30 p.m. forecast update:

  • Rain is slowly coming to an end Friday.
  • Temps will stay warm overnight; around 60 degrees.
  • Clouds will stick around Saturday with possible showers in the mountains.
  • Highs will be near 70.
  • There will be abundant sunshine and cold temperatures on Sunday.

The area Tornado Watch was no longer in effect.

Avery, Burke, and Caldwell counties were put under a Flash Flood Warning until 4 p.m. Friday.

Friday 11:04 a.m.:

A Flood Warning was issued for Ashe County until 4 p.m.

Friday 10:27 a.m.:

In Watauga County, several drivers couldn’t get to their cars at the Boone Mall because of flooding.

Friday 9:51 a.m.:

A Flood Warning was issued for Watauga County until 4 p.m. Friday. Channel 9′s Dave Faherty could see roads had started to flood in Blowing Rock. Winds had also started picking up in the High Country.

Friday 7:08 a.m.:

In the mountains, many prepared for flooding risks that Nicole would bring, and the wet roads Friday morning came as no surprise. In Boone standing water pooled on several roads and Channel 9′s Ken Lemon could see vehicles flying through it.

Friday 5:25 a.m.:

Lanes in both directions of Interstate 85 at Graham Street were shut down Friday morning due to crashes that both involved tractor trailers. A Channel 9 crew could see crews working the scene and traffic backed up in the area. We’ve reached out to MEDIC to learn if anyone was hurt.

Thursday 11:53 p.m.:

A Flood Watch was issued until 8 a.m. Friday for Ashe, Watauga, Avery, Caldwell and Burke counties.

Thursday 2:27 p.m.:

Chesterfield County Schools move to remote learning Friday.
