GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Work to widen and improve a heavily used bridge between Gaston and Mecklenburg counties will start in May.
State Representative Kelly Hastings told the Gaston Gazette special permits were approved this year for the Wilkinson Boulevard bridge over the Catawba River.
The bridge leads from Belmont to I-485.
It will be widened from four to six lanes, and raised to give boats more clearance.
