GRANITE FALLS, N.C. — Lingering damage from Helene could cause power outages in the North Carolina mountains as the winter storm moves through Friday and into Saturday.
Channel 9′s Dave Faherty was with crews on Thursday and said that line workers are on high alert over the next 48 hours.
Faherty spoke with crews who repaired lines for weeks after Helene hit, and they said they’ll be ready for whatever happens this weekend.
Crews at the Blue Ridge Energy district offices in Lenoir said their equipment is good to go this weekend.
Their concern is that snow and ice could bring down trees on power lines across the North Carolina High Country and Foothills.
More than 70,000 Blue Ridge Energy customers lost power during Helene. At one point in early October, the company had 600 people working to restore power.
Tevin Armes with Blue Ridge Energy reminds people to stay safe and stay away from any downed lines in the area.
