Woman arrested, charged with murder after deadly Alexander County shooting

Authorities are seeking Karla Freeland in connection with a homicide in Alexander County on March 25, 2024.

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday that deputies arrested Karla Breanna Freeland, 18, of Statesville, and charged her with murder in connection with a deadly shooting that happened early Monday morning in Hiddenite.

The sheriff’s office says deputies were called to a home on Old Mountain Village Drive around 1:30 a.m. and found a man who had been shot in the chest.

The victim was taken to a hospital but died from his injuries, according to ACSO. He was identified as 33-year-old Pang Vueyee of Newton.

Deputies said on Monday that they searched the home and arrested 46-year-old Jason Henry Fidler and also charged him with murder. That was when investigators got evidence to charge Freeland, as well.

Freeland is in the Alexander County Detention Center under no bond. Her first day in court is April 1.

Deputies also found drugs on Freeland when she was being processed so she faces a felony possession of controlled substance on jail premises charge and a misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia charge. She was given a $10,000 bond on those drug charges.

Authorities haven’t released a possible motive for the shooting.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information on Freeland’s whereabouts to call 911.
