FORECAST:
- “Well, we got some time to prepare before the first outbreak of snow in almost three years in Charlotte,” said Chief Meteorologist John Ahrens on Tuesday afternoon.
- Cold will be the name of the game in the short term with highs only around 40 degrees through Thursday.
- Then the storm will move in on Friday.
- By the time it moves in, it will be cold enough for snow on Friday afternoon which could continue through the night, Ahrens said.
- “What will make this system very dangerous is the potential for freezing rain after the snow,” he said.
- This could result in power outages and downed trees and limbs.
- “Be ready, friends! This will be a major winter weather event for the Carolinas!” Ahrens said.
