A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for our entire area starting at 7 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday.

Forecast:

  • “Buckle up, friends! We are just about 24 hours from winter weather in the Carolinas,” said Chief Meteorologist John Ahrens on Thursday afternoon.
  • We remain dry for Friday morning and then snow starts up at least by the early afternoon.
  • Don’t expect a whole lot of snow, Ahrens said.
  • That first batch of snow may give us an inch or more in spots before it changes to a wintry mix by the late afternoon and evening.
  • Snow accumulations will be hampered as freezing rain and ice mix in during this event.
  • We should have enough for about 1 inch in the city with higher totals to the north of Charlotte.
  • The ice could be a bigger issue, accumulating on tree limbs and causing a threat for power outages.
  • The biggest impact will be travel, which will be hazardous after 2 p.m. on Friday.
  • The sky clears early Saturday and temps will get back above freezing around midday.
