TRACKING: Winter storm warning issued ahead of storm

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for our entire area starting at 7 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday.

Forecast:

“Buckle up, friends! We are just about 24 hours from winter weather in the Carolinas,” said Chief Meteorologist John Ahrens on Thursday afternoon.
We remain dry for Friday morning and then snow starts up at least by the early afternoon.
Don’t expect a whole lot of snow, Ahrens said.
That first batch of snow may give us an inch or more in spots before it changes to a wintry mix by the late afternoon and evening.
Snow accumulations will be hampered as freezing rain and ice mix in during this event.
We should have enough for about 1 inch in the city with higher totals to the north of Charlotte.
The ice could be a bigger issue, accumulating on tree limbs and causing a threat for power outages.
The biggest impact will be travel, which will be hazardous after 2 p.m. on Friday.
The sky clears early Saturday and temps will get back above freezing around midday.
